I’m Kokulan, a Milton Keynes resident, and I recently created a light-hearted song called “Round and Round (This Is MK)” as a fun way to celebrate and learn about the city.
The idea was to create something catchy that people who already live in MK would recognise, while also helping people who are new to the area learn a little about what makes Milton Keynes different.
The song touches on the story of Milton Keynes being planned as a new city, its grid roads, roundabouts and Redways, as well as its location within easy reach of London, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge.
It also includes familiar MK places and landmarks such as Bletchley, Wolverton, Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell, CMK, Willen, Kingston, Oldbrook, Fishermead, Xscape, the Peace Pagoda and the Concrete Cows.
A big part of the song is also about the diversity of Milton Keynes. It celebrates people from different backgrounds, cultures and languages who now call MK home, while keeping the tone fun and inclusive.
There are plenty of local jokes too — from endless roundabouts and late buses to parking at Kingston and the familiar comments from people who say “MK isn’t what it used to be”.
The song was created as an AI-assisted personal project, using AI music-generation tools alongside my own ideas, research, lyrics and creative direction.
I’ve called it “Round and Round (This Is MK)”, and I’ve also created a short-form video version to go with it.
My main aim was simply to create something positive, fun and recognisably Milton Keynes.
